The Historic Santa Fe
Foundation (HSFF) is an organization that has thrived since it was
founded in 1961. Our mission is to own, preserve and protect historic
properties and resources of Santa Fe and its environs and to provide
historic preservation education. We own eight
properties in Santa Fe and holds historic
preservation easements on others.
The Historic Santa Fe
Foundation is a valuable asset to our treasured community. We are here
to protect what we all love about Santa Fe and to ensure that it is here
for our grandchildren, and their grandchildren. |

Lost
1850s Simon Nusbaum House: home built by pioneer Jewish merchant
Solomon Spiegelberg one block from Santa Fe Plaza torn down for an
85-car parking lot. The destruction of this early Territorial era
building was the impetus for the founding of the Historic Santa Fe
Foundation in 1960.

Restored
1851 Oliver P. Hovey House
(formerly known as the Pinckney R. Tully House): Territorial era adobe
house that the HSFF rescued from demolition, purchased in 1974, and
restored to 1890s style. The exterior reproduction features white
rectangles painted on red plaster, a popular turn-of-the-century style
that simulated brick, the high-status building material of the time.

Protected
Pre 1840s "Original Trading Post": protected by New Mexico's first
preservation easement, which was donated by owners John and Merry
Schroeder in 1998 and is held by the HSFF through its
Preservation Easement Program. The easement
specifies that the building cannot be demolished or obstructed from view
and the property cannot be subdivided.

Saved
Pre-1925 Rivera Barn: an historic stone and adobe structure saved by
a group of Upper Canyon Road residents, the Canyon Preservation Trust,
and the HSFF, who joined forces with the barn's owner to raise funds to
replace a leaking roof and rotting vigas.
