Archbishop Jean-Baptiste Lamy’s Chapel is a humble adobe structure typical of the Territorial period. The chapel and private spaces remain whitewashed and simply furnished, highlighted by a locally made, Gothic-influenced wooden altar. Originally and for many decades, small perennial flower gardens and orchards bordered the chapel and served to distinguish it from later structures on the adjoining property. In 1918, the Thorpe family purchased the surrounding acreage and established a family retreat and guest accommodations. By 1928, the site further developed into the guest ranch named Bishop’s Lodge Ranch. Today, the chapel is owned by Bishop’s Lodge, operated by Auberge Resorts Collection.
