Leather Tooling Workshop with Scott Horn
Saturday, April 18, 2026 | 2-4 pm.
Join us to learn the art of leather tooling from a second-generation leatherworker. The instructor focuses on creative expression, teaching the foundational process before allowing students to develop their own unique patterns and designs. Participants will create functional pieces of leather art, including wrist cuffs, keychains, bookmarks, and coasters, making perfect keepsakes or gifts.
No experience is necessary, and all tools and materials will be provided.

Watercolor Workshop with Elaine Ritchel

Join Elaine Ritchel for a two-hour, beginner-friendly session inspired by her exhibition, Desert Drift. You will learn to paint expressive clouds and atmospheric washes, completing a mini-series of two 5×7" watercolor paintings to take home.
Level: No prior experience necessary.

Exhibiting photographer Elizabeth Chiles will be in conversation with Leah Berger, Ruthbeth Finerman, Ph.D., Lauren Theodora Tietz, and Liz Vanc. This program, organized by the Richard Levy Gallery, features experts from three disciplines that inform Chiles’s artistic practice. The event is in honor of Chiles's exhibition, "Stardust Dialogues," which will be on view at El Zaguán from August 1-30. The exhibition is presented in collaboration with the Richard Levy Gallery in Albuquerque.

Tinsmith Esteban Ismael Durán will engage in a conversation with Gallery Manager Anne Kelly. This engaging discussion will offer insights into the history of punch tin and explore how Durán incorporates this material to create unique contemporary artworks using traditional techniques.

PAST EVENT | Brushmaking Workshop with Thin Air Goods
Monday, July 14, 2025 , at 10 AM OR Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 12 PM
Max capacity of 10 participants. $100 per person. Advance registration is required.
El Zaguán Resident artist Julia Tait Dickenson of Thin Air Goods will instruct two separate workshops. Participants will learn, make, and take home two simple tampico brush structures: a mini broom involving wrapping and stitching, and a local cholla paintbrush. Tools and materials are included.
