Seasons of History Tours in the El Zaguán Garden
Explore history through the seasons in the historic Garden of El Zaguán
June 12 - Jesusita Johnson and the foundation of the Garden
July 25 - Margretta Dietrich and the saving of El Zaguán
September 23 - Historic Santa Fe Foundation and the Master Gardeners
Walk through history as you walk through the historic Garden of HSFF’s El Zaguán. Led by SFE Master Gardener Ruthbeth Finerman, each tour will focus on how the garden evolves through the summer season, as well as a particular period of the Gardens History.
June 12 - Jesusita Johnson and the foundation of the Garden
The early summer months bring flowers like poppies, and irises to the Garden. Learn about the perennials that make early summer at El Zaguán so vibrant, as well as Jesusita Johnson, the woman who first planted the garden.
July 25 - Margretta Dietrich and the saving of El Zaguán (including a tea party in the garden after the tour)
The height of summer sees the garden covered in columbines and __. As we learn about the flowers that grow in the midsummer sun, we will learn about the next phase of El Zaguáns history, and the women who saved it along the way.
September 23 - Historic Santa Fe Foundation and the SFE Master Gardeners
The last tour will see how the garden begins to wind down for fall and winter, while still blooming in the late summer. The final phase of the history will bring us to the present, with El Zaguán becoming the home of the Historic Santa Fe Foundation, and the beginning of the Stewardship of the Garden by the SFE Master gardeners.
